Chris & Thomas | John Hay Estate at The Fells | October 5th, 2024

When it comes to wedding stationery and signage that tells a story, Chris and Thomas’ wedding was a dream to design. Their vintage, fall-inspired wedding with a literary theme allowed us to create pieces that were both meaningful and visually striking.

Finding Hemlock Ridge Designs

Chris and Thomas found us through their planner, Samantha at The Perfect Match. Samantha reached out on the couple’s behalf nearly a year in advance, ensuring the stationery and day-of signage would perfectly complement their wedding vision. From invitations to day-of pieces, every element was thoughtfully designed to reflect the couple’s personalities and passions.

From Mood Board to Vision Board

The couple and their planner provided a mood board with imagery, colors, and inspiration, including their teal, green, and terracotta palette. We then transformed this into a vision board, guiding the design process and setting the tone for the invitations, menus, and all day-of signage.

Textures, Shapes, and Printing Techniques

To achieve a vintage book-inspired look, we used deckled-edge, textured cardstock that gave the stationery a classic, tactile feel. While we opted not to use letterpress printing due to budget considerations, the finished pieces still felt rich and sophisticated.

Personal, Meaningful Touches

Chris and Thomas’s love of literature was incorporated throughout. They sent us specific books and pages to be used in the signage and menus, making each piece uniquely meaningful. Every detail, from the artwork on the invitations to the bar sign made from a cookbook, tied back to the couple’s story.

Favorite Pieces

Our favorite pieces included the menu/ place card combination, where each guest received a personal “book” with their name on the cover and the menu inside. The menus had deckled-edge book pages, a nod back to the invitation design, and listed the dinner courses as “chapters.” The bar sign, created from the couple’s cookbook and displayed in a cookbook stand, was another highlight. Florals from the wedding were incorporated into the menu inside cover design, uniting the stationery with the overall tablescape.

Enhancing the Guest Experience

Using meaningful literary elements throughout the wedding created a clear narrative and memorable experience for guests. From the invitations to the day-of signage and stationery, every piece was thoughtfully designed to engage attendees and celebrate the couple’s story.

Aligning With Future Work

This wedding was an ideal example of the type of work we love: starting with invitations and carrying the design through to day-of stationery, creating unique, personal, and memorable pieces that stand apart from typical wedding designs.
